DONATION APPEAL

At a recent Christ Church Somerset West (CCSW) Council meeting the ‘long leave policy’ was confirmed, and also slightly revised. As some who worship at CCSW possibly haven’t been with us for more than 6 years or so, a clarification on this policy was deemed necessary.

Ministry can be an arduous calling, and sometimes has the tendency to take its toll on people over time. Our ministry staff work six days a week, often early mornings and evenings as well, let alone frequent taxing pastoral and administrative duties.

The REACH SA policy is that every 7 years staff in full time ministry roles are strongly encouraged to take long leave of up to 90 calendar days to give them rest and the break they need. Burn-out in ministry is not uncommon.

Gavin will be taking his long leave from around mid-June this year and he will no doubt talk about it more in due course. While we encourage ministry staff to take long leave, we are also aware that this comes with extra expense. We can’t just expect Gavin or whoever it may be to just stay at home to paint pictures or work in the garden!

Accordingly, as we have done in the past, this is an appeal from Council to ask you to consider making a financial donation to Gavin and Ruth-Ann as they go on this break. They are planning to visit Ruth-Ann’s family in Canada and Gavin will also be spending time with Vaughan Roberts at St Ebbes Church in Oxford. This is not work – Gavin and Vaughan have been great friends since university days and Vaughan has invited him to stay with him for a while.

Please do consider this appeal prayerfully, and when you make a donation, be it via EFT or the ‘yellow boxes’, please indicate clearly that this is for Gavin and Ruth-Ann.

Thank you.
