HOLIDAY CLUB
It already feels like a long time ago but thinking about Holiday Club still brings such joy to the children and to the leaders. Holiday Club was the first week of the school holidays, 28 June – 1 July. We had about 75 children each day and a team of 10 leaders. The theme was ‘Heroes Academy’. We worked through the book of Luke and together we were on a mission to find out who the true Hero is, why He is the true Hero and how we can be heroes too if we follow Him.
On the third day of Holiday Club, nine children asked the Lord Jesus to forgive them and be their Saviour and Hero. We thank the Lord for working in the hearts of these little ones. Holiday Club is of course lots of fun, but it also has a great impact on the lives of the children and it’s a great way to reach out the community and share the good news of Jesus. One of the boys who gave their life to Jesus went to his small group that morning and he drew a little picture on his craft. When I asked him what he was drawing, he said: “This is Jesus and this is my heart and this line shows that Jesus and I are now forever together.” This boy understood the Gospel and this shows that children can become true believers, praise the Lord.
One of the things the children loved about Holiday Club were Abby, Gabby and Sketch. These were three characters that would start the day and end off with us. Abby and Gabby were funny and they wanted to learn how to become heroes themselves. They introduced the teaching of the day and at the end of our time together they shared what they had learned. While they were doing this, Sketch would come up as well. He never speaks, he only draws. The children loved this! He would draw two pictures each day that represent the Bible lesson. The children did not know who he was until he revealed himself at the Sunday service. One boy came to me on Friday after Holiday Club and said that he could not come on Sunday and if he could please meet Sketch. So, I brought him to Sketch and Sketch revealed himself. This boy looked Sketch in the eyes with such amazement.
One of the songs that we’ve learned speaks of what the children have learned:
I'm following the King
I'm ready to obey
To listen to His word.
Yes!! Jesus is my King
I'm living now for Him
‘Cos Jesus is my King
I don't deserve His mercy
I don't deserve His love
And yet He died to save me
Died upon the cross
All praise be the God for this wonderful week with the children!
