OUR MATRIC DINNER
Last week we hosted our first Matric Dinner for our Grade 12s. The purpose of this special evening was to celebrate them, as well as to have an opportunity to talk with them about what to expect once they leave school, and what the next phase of their lives might look like. Four older people from our congregation were invited to share about their own experiences after they had left school, how these experiences have shaped them to where they are in their lives today, and what they wished they’d known back then that might have been very helpful to them at that time. Question and answer time with the Matrics also gave the speakers the opportunity to address issues such as feelings of anxiety about the next few years ahead, the pressure of making big ‘life decisions’ about what to study, or whether to consider even taking a gap year. It was also an opportunity to reiterate how vital it is to stay connected to church and Christian fellowship as a young person as they make their way in the world, whether it is through university, a gap year, or starting work, …and to be trusting in God’s sovereignty over their life through all the ups and downs of the years ahead.
As a church family, let us be praying for our Matric students here at CCSW - may they all know God’s grace and be encouraged through his Word and by his community here at church during this very significant year of their life.
