MISSION PARTNER UPDATE - THE BIBLE SOCIETY
We had Rev. Willem Swanepoel of the Bible Society of South Africa visit us this past Sunday.
The International Bible Society, famously started in the UK as a result of young Mary Jones’ search for her own Bible, has been active in SA for 204 years. The Society translates, produces and distributes Bibles and Biblical materials, in order to put a Bible into the hand of every South African, in their own language. Most of the financial support received goes towards translation.
There are still 8 languages in SA (not of the 11 official languages) that do not have a Bible in their own language.
There are a number of exciting projects running, including a Christmas Project for the Deaf. More info on that HERE.
Following Willem’s short and encouraging presentation, we were tested to see how well we had listened. Pleased to say, all 5 questions were answered, with 5 New Testaments handed out as prizes to the responders (see photo) who were to give them to someone without a Bible.
The Bible Society of SA and International have been one of our CCSW mission partners for decades and we pray for them every month.
Our next prayer meeting (also the last one for 2024) will be on Sunday 24 November, between the services. We hope to see you there!
