REACH SA SYNOD 2024

Our Rector’s Warden, Jerry Gilbert, was in Johannesburg last week and attended SYNOD. Here’s his feedback:

”Last week on Wednesday and Thursday, Christ Church Midrand, under the rectorship of Rev. Roydon Frost, hosted the 2024 REACH South Africa SYNOD. SYNOD is the annual gathering of Bishops, Senior Presbyters and appointed members of church leadership. Leadership of the REACH Southern Africa churches from Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe as well as representation from Angola, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo also attended.

Roydon delivered the opening service sermon from Psalm 16 and I Corinthians 15 on Tuesday evening that marked the beginning of Synod for general attendees and visitors. The National Executive and Trustee meetings were held during the day on the Tuesday.

Under God, our newly elected Presiding Bishop the Rt. Rev. Dr. Siegfried Ngubane chaired proceedings with the dignity, decorum and dominion required of such a Christ-honouring gathering, ensuring discussions and decisions reflected the will of our Lord and Saviour.

It was encouraging to witness REACH South Africa members from all areas debate issues of singular or mutual import, reaching understanding and consensus across diverse challenges. It would however be naïve to believe there are no further challenges ahead to be overcome.

Our denomination is steeped in the Word of God and decisions such as the making of Deaconesses are never treated lightly so as to avoid the trap of liberalism within which some Anglican churches have become entangled. Our commitment to sharing the values of GAFCON (the Global Anglican Future Conference) as confessing Anglicans was underscored as we consider becoming part of the Province of Southern Africa.

Please hold the leadership of REACH SA firmly in your prayers and visit the denomination website HERE for records of last week’s discussions and decisions.”
