GET WISDOM!

As you know, we are preaching through the Book of Proverbs in our morning services. The continual call throughout the opening chapters is this, "Get wisdom!" It’s as if there is nothing more important in life than to have wisdom. It would be truly daunting if becoming wise meant memorising and mastering hundreds of Proverbs. Thankfully this is not the case! Wisdom is instead comes from a "love affair" with Lady Wisdom - the personification of wisdom in Proverbs. It’s in loving, cherishing and embracing her that we become wise. Ultimately, wisdom has become a person and it’s in a loving relationship with him that we grow in wisdom. In the words of Raymond van Leeuwen: "Christ is the wisdom of God, revealed in the person of Jesus (1 Cor 1:24, 30). Thus getting of wisdom and the knowing of God in Christ are inseparable, fulfilling the sense of Prov 9:10, 'The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom’". Get wisdom!
